America's Urban Colleges Magazine to go National in February 2008

College magazine founded seven years ago will expand to 140 colleges and universities across the country in February 2008.

ATLANTA (December 4, 2007) - America’s Urban Colleges Magazine (AUC Magazine), a seven-year-old Atlanta-based publication that targets urban college students, will expand to 140 colleges and universities across the country in February 2008. The free, monthly magazine will increase its current circulation to 100,000, reaching colleges from New York City to Los Angeles. It will be the largest publication of its kind in the country, addressing an increased advertiser interest in targeting young, educated African Americans.

The national expansion is the vision of Publisher Kevin D. Johnson, the 28-year-old CEO of parent company Johnson Media Inc. Johnson, an alumnus of Morehouse College, created the magazine as a college sophomore after realizing that no independent, student-produced publication existed for urban college students. Since its first issue, AUC Magazine has grown in profitability every year.

"Over the years we have fine tuned our competitive advantage: giving corporations a popular, independent platform to get their message across while at the same time working with the schools. Consequently, we are confident that our brand will continue to deliver for both our advertisers and readers on a national level. For the last three years, we have watched and studied the market to prepare for this national step," said Johnson.

AUC Magazine will reach over 500,000 readers every month both in print and online. The newsprint magazine will average 64 pages per month for the first year. Current advertisers are mainly corporate recruiters, consumer product companies, and graduate schools. They include Target, UPS, NASCAR, Boost Mobile, New Era, Burger King, American University, University of Alabama, and University of Missouri-Kansas City.
